Alien Resurrection
What he said:
This is where the series takes a turn for the worse. To
me, this movie is not even considered canon. I can buy the first 3 as a
series, but this one is just its own thing. It has many problems.
First of all Ripley died in the previous movie, though in
the movie's defense it does not hide the fact this character is not
supposed to be Ellen Ripley. She even has some funny lines. But the most
puzzling moment is that they somehow seem to imply that cloning a
200-year old dead woman (which based on the previous movie would be
impossible) would bring back the alien that was inside her as well. The
believability was gone, which was a huge component of the previous
films.
They also attempted to get all new and creative by
creating a new type of alien. It worked in the previous film, because
they took the logic from what we knew of the Xenomorphs, but in this
film it is simply sloppy. Even worse, not all that scary.
This film wasn't without it's bright spots though. It's
actually kind of a funny movie. It has this tongue-in-cheek feel to it
that might have worked better if this was simply not an Alien movie. It
is very comic booky and might have worked better had they done a few
things differently. Ron Perlman for example was hilarious; he usually
is.
Rating: Thumbs down.
