The Book of Eli

What he said:

Besides its own personal problems as a movie, it really didn't help that The Road, another post-apocalyptic flick, was released several months before. They are two different types of movies, and The Road was just so much better.

This movie had some nice visuals, a few decent gun-fights (which get very old quickly), but it was rather bland overall. I thought it started out ok, but as the movie goes on, I got bored. The action became very predictable to the point it was actually very anti-climatic. When an action flick can't keep your interest, it has problems.

Also, about the ending…I just felt it was absurd. I'm all for delivering a hopeful, good, uplifting message, but the twist/revelation at the end just seemed utterly ridiculous.

Michael Gambom (Dumbledore #2) had a really funny cameo though. I got a kick out of those scenes.

This movie could have been better. Denzel Washington AND Gary Oldman are capable of more. Denzel just shows up for a paycheck anymore. Oldman also does this a fair share, which is disappointing for such a good actor. The script itself also wasn’t really that good, so they didn’t have much to work with.

Rating: Thumbs down.
