A Serious Man

What he said:

I can't believe the same guys who did Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and some other really good stuff made this movie. Those are some cool movies! This on the other hand, I found to be completely boring. The story felt very random and chaotic to me. I felt like I was watching a serious of events and not a movie.

Not to mention, it wasn't even funny and it annoys me off when a movie is billed as being funny and isn't. I could have tolerated it much more if it had at least entertained me, but i did not care about this movie or its characters one bit.

Critics and even some normal folk liked it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say if it weren’t a Coen brothers film it wouldn't get nearly as much praise. I think sometimes people just get too attached to who makes it or stars in it.

Rating: Thumbs down.

I did not love this movie. It was a bit disjointed and random, although I understand that there was a lot of symbolism, subliminal messaging, and commentary. I kept waiting for things to come together in a way that would be satisfying, and they never really did. They finally moved that direction at the very end, but then the viewer is left hanging. It wasn't the worst movie ever, it was just dull and disengaging because of the way it was composed. Visually, I think there was nice cinematography, but the plot just didn't draw me in. Sorry, but this just didn't do it for me.

Diagnosis: Thumbs down.
